INDIVIDUAL COMPETITION RULES
These rules are suitable for use in England, Wales and Scotland by a company or organisation that is offering a prize to the public by way of a competition entered through its website, via text message, or by telephone.
What the rules contain
The following agreement provides a framework within which you – the competition organiser – offers the competition to the public. It contains the ways in which the public can enter the competition, what prizes are on offer and when the competition closes. This is a basic set of competition rules and does not deal with standard business eventualities, such as resolving disputes. These rules should be used in conjunction with a set of competition terms and conditions, which deal with more specific details, such as liability limitation and intellectual property rights (see our contents page for a set of competition terms and conditions).
How to use the rules and why you should use them
These rules cover all the basics of a competition that is open to the public. It is important to set out clearly factors such as what the prize consists of, how to take part in the competition and how the winners are chosen. This will cover you in the event that entrants do not win and want to question the procedure of the competition.
Acceptance of these rules occurs when the competition is entered – they should be placed prominently on the pages of the website through which the competition is entered or anywhere that the telephone number or text entry number (if different) are displayed.
